Easter-Shmeaster

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

Happy Easter everyone. Keep your eyes peeled, new cast is a’comin soon. In the meantime, may I placate your sense of humor with a small anicdotal account of my weekend? Alright, check it: Friday night my lovely, big-breasted girlfriend took me to the Mirage to see David Spade, live in concert. Twas a birthday gift from she. We had a great time, as Spade was on! He left me satisfied with the money spent, which was not awful. 70 dollars a pop, but hey, I’ve paid more for less show. Also, his opener was great. His name was either Tom Glass, or Todd Gloss, or some variation of the two. He posed an interesting hypothetical: Would you rather sweat shit, or have poop for hair? Me, I’m going for the poop for hair, cause it’s much more managable.

After the show, we went to go have beers with a few pals of mine, but we were sidetracked on the way. She asked me to take my dick out when we got in the car, ( guess how long THAT took…) and she proceeded to felate me en route to Dutch’s house. As we entered his neighborhood, she made me pull the truck over and she climbed up onto me and insisted on riding me like Jethro on a John Deere! It was euphoric. Had some beers with the fellas and headed home bout oneish. The next morning we got up and went to a fashionably late lunch (sex) at a seafood place called King’s seafood with a bartender friend of mine, well off the beaten path nestled amid many other trendy eateries in the District, at Green Valley Ranch, which is a popular locals casino. I tried oysters for the first time, and sushi for the second. Both stellar. After lunch we took in a flick. We saw Be Cool with Dutch and my other pal J-Mo, and returned to my Villa in the city for a fine Phillipino dinner and many beers with 8 of my closest friends. As for easter, I’ve spent the whole day w my girl and her family and I’m too stuffed right now to continue, so content yourselves with the knowledge that the weekend was grand, the sex was plentiful and dirty, and the ham was honey-baked, and I’m almost ready to go back to work tomorrow…….right after I watch the Simpsons.

Service Industry Night 2 030805

Yeah, it’s here. If you’re hip to the numbering scheme, you’ve figured out by now that we recorded this two weeks ago.

How embarrassing.

I think I should make the point that we weren’t originally going to air this one any more than we had planned to air the last one, but what the hell, it’s podcasting and part of the appeal is the fact that it’s not professionally done, right? If I keep telling myself that, perhaps it will be true. The short story behind this is that I was trying a couple of things, based upon the advice of Hugo Schottman. There were two major problems (If you’re looking at doing your own podcast, take notes here), first being my decision to record into Apple Lossless and the second being my taking Hugo’s advice about a few filters to apply to the mics. While it actually isn’t real obvious in the final product, my experience with ALAC is that it creates way too much latency to work with. It shows up during recording in the form of pops and dropouts and a serious delay in your headphones. Perhaps something with some more ass than my 12 inch PowerBook G4 could deal, but I couldn’t. I’ve got the HD space for AIFF, so I’m going back to that with compression in post. As for the filters I mentioned, the fault, I should point out, is due to my own ignorance about how a compressor and noise gate works. Because of my own ignorance you might notice a bit of clipping when either Freak or I start talking. It’s annoying and I’m taking it out until I figure out how to set it up correctly. I also want to apologize for the really annoying bleeps in the last cast. As you may have guessed, Wood and Freak are not our real names and, for the present, we have reason not to use them. So the bleeps. I just didn’t know how fucking annoying they were when I did the edit. Sorry.

In this cast you’ll hear us talking about a lot of the same shit we talked about last time (no, it’s not just you). This time around, we also hit on Las Vegas real estate prices, tell some kid friendly jokes, talk about podcasting and disruptive technologies, how sexy Dawn Micelli’s voice is and what it was like for Freak to grow up with his brother, who has Tourette’s. And, as a special bonus, if you listen closely you can hear my son Fletcher in the background. Trust me, those are happy noises.

Service Industry Night 1 030105

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

You know, I distinctly recall saying something about how easy this was going to be. Sigh. Well, this is the first Service Industry Night podcast, the one that wasn’t going to air because Freak was trying to hard. After listening to some other podcasts, I realized I was being too hard on the two of us. There was some post production editing for this one, mainly to beep out some retard using our actual names (we have a reason for withholding them folks, that will come out later) and when I say retard, I mean mostly me. In this, our inaugural podcast, we talk about ourselves, Vegas, loogies, fine films and Freak’s girlfriend’s breasts. Hey, we aim high.

Look, I’m working on it.

Welcome to Service Industry Night, the only real Las Vegas Podcast. Sure, there’s Five Hundy By Midnight, the Original Las Vegas Podcast and there’s Visit My Las Vegas, which, AFAICT, is all about getting people to come to Vegas.

Folks, these are podcasts by and for fans of Las Vegas. We ain’t that podcast.

Don’t get me wrong, Vegas is okay, but we live here. We work here. We do all the same crap you do in your hometown every day, we just do it in Vegas. You could say we happen in Vegas and we’re still here, but that would be a hackneyed paraphrasing of an overexposed and not necessarily flattering ad campaign.

Currently I’ve got two podcasts in the can and, man, are they rough. Personally, I didn’t want to release them but, at the behest of my lovely wife, my cohost, my cohost’s girlfriend and others, I’m going to throw them out there. Give a listen, would ya? I’ll have the first one up in a bit. Until then, content yourself with this lovely photo of Freak, my cohost, who should know better than to nap around me.

Ain’t that sweet?
